A longttime Kings Park family is hoping to support their toddler daughter who suffers from hearing loss at Walk4Hearing, a fundraiser taking place at the end of this month.

Rachel Kern, a former teacher at RJO Intermediate School, is mom of Lily Rae, a two-and-a-half-year-old little girl who was born with Microtia Atresia, a congenital deformity of the ear that has resulted in hearing impairment.

The family will be participating in Walk4Hearing, taking place Sept. 30 at Riverside Park in Manhattan.

"This walk will help my daughter as well as many other individuals with hearing impairments, said Kern. "

One in ten persons in the United States has a hearing loss. The goal of the Walk4Hearing is to increase awareness about the causes and consequences of hearing loss and to raise funds to provide information and support for people with hearing loss.
