Elves Flying Off Local Shelves
Local storekeepers say they are selling out of the hot "Elf on the Shelf" toy.
He's been around for seven years, but his popularity hasn't hit a high until this December. Local shopkeepers are reporting that calls are flooding in for the Elf on the Shelf and his accompanying book.
Nearby stores such as Target in Commack and Barnes and Noble in Lake Grove are sold out.
“We have no more left,” said a salesperson at Barnes and Noble.

The elf is a popular holiday staple with a few local moms who have found his mysterious way helpful with instilling some good holiday behavior. Lori Ann Wiegmann Marzigliano commented on our Facebook page about their elf “Sammy”.
“Yes... Our ELF is "Sammy" and he is always watching and my four year old has never been better.”

When asked if they or their children find the elf, um, kind of creepy, the reply was a resounding no.
“Our elf is the first thing my eight year old looks for in the morning. Puts a smile on her face first thing. We bought it at Four Star Variety in Northport village,” said Susan Boccia via our Facebook page.
Local card stores in Kings Park do not carry the elf. A quick Internet search shows that Barnes and Noble online and Amazon.com both carry the popular item.
As written by mother/daughter Carol Aebersold and Chanda Bell, The Elf on the Shelf works directly for Santa. He arrives during the holiday season and watches over children, making sure they are being good. Each night, he magically flies to Santa to report to him on the children's behavior. When he arrives back, he hides in a new spot for children to find him in the morning. He heads back to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.
