Rocky Point's Maertz Declares Candidacy for New York State Assembly
Jennifer Maertz, D-Rocky Point, announced her candidacy Monday for the Second Assembly District for the seat that was vacated by former Assemblyman Dan Losquadro after he was elected as Brookhaven Town Superintendent of Highways during a special election in March.
The Rocky Point woman most recently ran in the state senate primary to challenge New York State Sen. Kenneth LaValle but lost to Bridget Fleming. She first ran for State Senate in the 1st Senate District in 2010.

Disabled Couple Sues Over Lack of Living Facility at Maryhaven
While a lawsuit involving a Port Jefferson Station-based nonprofit makes national headlines, a lawyer representing the couple behind the lawsuit is hoping a U.S. District Court judge allows them to at least live together as a married couple while court proceedings are ongoing.

Paul Forziano and Hava Samuels – both of whom have developmental disabilities and live in group homes – tied the knot in April. However neither of the homes where they live – Samuels' home run by Maryhaven Center of Hope and Forziano's Independent Group Home Living in Manorville – will allow them to live together, saying they don't have the facilities to accomodate them.

Civic Leader, Town Officials Deliver Illegal Housing Update
There are about 100 known illegal college boarding houses in the Three Village area so far, according to the Stony Brook Concerned Homeowners organization, and there are about 50 Three Village cases presently going through the court system, town officials said.
