Cooler Containing Dead Dog Found Floating in Long Island Sound

Suffolk SPCA officials are seeking information about a dead dog found Thursday evening by a Smithtown bay constable.

A cooler with a dead dog inside was found floating in the Long Island Sound on Thursday evening.

According to the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals, a Smithtown bay constable found a dead dog inside a soft-sided cooler floating in the Sound about 1/4 mile west of Cranes Neck and north of Sunken Meadow State Park.

The dog was a brown female pit bull approximately two or three years old. The dog had no tags but had a blue nylon leash, and SCPA officials said there were no visible signs of trauma or scarring.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals at 631-382-7722.

Whoever could do this literally has no soul. What a heartless, cruel, inhumane act....

She probably is chipped and they are holding her till they find out more or find the right program for the chip. Many vets and rescues are changing from one to HomeAgain and don't have or cannot afford the new wand. I'm sure the SCSPCA has a card up their sleeve. Between this and the last two incidents, its getting mighty frightening with this long hot summer head of us.

That's disgusting behavior. Only a sack of dirt for lack of a better word could ever be that cruel. I hope they find out who it is. Who could do something like that?!!! That disgusts me!!!
