Cooler Containing Dead Dog Found Floating in Long Island Sound

Suffolk SPCA officials are seeking information about a dead dog found Thursday evening by a Smithtown bay constable.

A cooler with a dead dog inside was found floating in the Long Island Sound on Thursday evening.

According to the Suffolk County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals, a Smithtown bay constable found a dead dog inside a soft-sided cooler floating in the Sound about 1/4 mile west of Cranes Neck and north of Sunken Meadow State Park.

The dog was a brown female pit bull approximately two or three years old. The dog had no tags but had a blue nylon leash, and SCPA officials said there were no visible signs of trauma or scarring.
