Smithtown's Mobil Gas Price Jumps 40 Cents in 24 Hours

Price gap between cash and credit still at $2.

The Mobil station located at 819 West Jericho Turnpike in Smithtown opted to charge a $2 difference in cash versus credit card prices per gallon, and in 24 hours the price has jumped 40 cents.

As of Friday the price for regular unleaded was $3.99 a gallon for cash customers and $5.99 a gallon for credit. Just yesterday that the station was charging $3.59 a gallon for regular for cash customers and $5.59 a gallon for credit.

The station sparked regional  to use their credit cards rather than cash.

"The price here is from the management and what the boss wants is what we we will change," an employee at the station said Friday afternoon. "What they do I follow."

Calls to the gas station manager were not returned by time of publication.

"Read The Energy Non Crisis. My buddy is working in Alaska right now, and he says easy oil is everywhere. Only problem - the corporations own the rights, not the government" Author of that book lacks credibility in my view. Let's examine ANWR, which advocates of "drill baby drill" say could supply US energy needs. Estimates of RECOVERABLE oil range from 600 million to 9 billion barrels. Let's suppose it is the high number, and every drop is pumped. How long would that last the US? At current usage, that would last about one year and a half! Just do the math.
