It was a win-win for kids and parents who participated in Main Street's first ever Parent's Night Out.
On a recent Friday night, parents were able to drop their kids off for a 90 minute dance party for just $2 at Kings Park Dance and then head out to a local participating restaurants to enjoy a discounted meal.
Dance center owners Sandra and Nick Moletto thought up the idea as a way to get parents out onto Main Street and try out the expanding restaurant scene in Kings Park and have a little time out without the kids.
"We had approximately 45 kids in total," said Sandra. "It was so much fun. Kids were going between rooms because we were doing different things in each room. We set up a little kid room and a big kid room."
Charlie Gardner, president of the Kings Park Chamber of Commerce thought it was a great idea.
"It's a nice idea and I hope people take advantage of it," said Gardner. " It is helping the community, the local businesses. I really hope it works."
Participating restaurants such as Sombrero's and Dixie's Smokehouse saw moms and dad taking advantage of the discounts offered, according to owner Mike Franchi.
"We did have some customers who participated in the Parents Night Out, definitely off to a good start," said Franchi.
The night was successful enough for the group to host a second Parents Night Out.
"It was incredible," said Sandra, " We had such a great time, the kids had a blast. Parents couldn't thank us enough, which made us feel so good. We are looking at November 16th for the next date."
