Meet the Owner: Kids and Creativity Top This Dance Teacher's List

Kelly Komorowski is kicking her heels up, doing what she loves.

Kelly Komorowski thinks everyone should dance and for eleven years she has been giving the Kings Park community the chance to do just that.

Komorowski is the owner of Encore Dance Academy and a 1998 graduate of Kings Park High School. Last year Komorowski funded the high school’s winter kick line team, where, in 2004, Komorowski was the team coach

“I was going to school to be a math teacher, but I decided I loved teaching dance,” she said. Komorowski ticks off the reasons why she loves it; “I love working with kids. I love getting to be creative everyday, the choreography, thinking up ideas for dances.”

Komorowski’s, who started her business when she was 21, when she says working 18-hour days, was no sweat.

“It was a little hard the first year. I had a lot of help from other studio owners,” said Komorowski, adding that her background in math was also a plus as a new business owner.

The studio offers several types of classes, ranging in age from two up to 18 and styles from acrobatics to ballet and hip-hop. They also have a popular Zumba class for adults.  This fall they will debut a new class, Angelina Ballerina. Komorowski said in learning about the new program, she found out just how beneficial dance can be to young minds.

“While learning the curriculum, I learned what dance could do to develop a child’s brain. Moves like crossing hand on shoulders, using the left and right side helps us to use different parts of the brain.”

Komorowski now juggles her role as business owner with wife and mother of two children ages two and four. She credits great friends, family and a “wonderful staff” with helping her get it all done.

She also loves the town that she works in, though no longer a resident here.

“I miss living here. I love everything about Kings Park. It’s kind of like a big family.”

Apparently you are not the only one this is happening to. From what I understand if these signs areRead More on a main drag somehow they are disappearing in the middle of the night. Hmmm, now I wonder who or what organization could be doing this illegal act? I'm not going to make an educated guess who could be involverd in this deed but I think if Kings Parkers do some research they are smart enough to figure out who does not want the real facts of the "Uplands Project" to come to light. Displaying these signs is a way of making the public aware of the atrocity of this project. Questions will then be asked. Making a night run to remove them is, at the least, a cowardly act that should be publicized every time it occurs!
