Ice Rink's Success Is a Family Affair

Second generation owner hopes to keep business in the family.

The key to success at Superior Ice Rink lies not only in its USA-sanctioned certified programs, but also it's close knit, family run operation.

The rink, is owned by Richard McGuigan, who was brought into the business by his father who bought the business in 1972.

In a report on Fios 1, McGuigan says, "there was a real need for an ice rink in Long Island at the the time and we went through with it. I was always involved, I think since I was 14 years old."

The rink also boasts some well known hockey players turned coaches such as former Islanders Steve Webb and Pat Lafontaine. Last year, Superior played  host to a charity event in honor of local resident Frank Rizzo who lost his life in a car accident. The event drew a crowd of 1200 who came out to watch Islander greats take on the Kings Park/Commack Alumni Hockey Team, raising over $10,000.
