Gold Medal Gymnastics Tumbles Into Smithtown Location

Main Street in Smithtown becomes fourth location for Gold Medal Gymnastics Center.

After impressing the judges in three other markets, Gold Medal Gymnastics Center opened its fourth location recently on West Main Street in Smithtown.

Since opening in June, the Smithtown facility is already fully equipped and has all programs up and running for children from the ages of 18 months to 18 years. They provide programs, such as recreation, tumble classes, competitive teams and also do birthday parties.

In business for 39 years, Gold Medal will add Smithtown to a roster that currently includes locations in Rocky Point, Huntington, and Centereach.

According to office manager, Missy Taggart, who has been directing gymnastics programs for 10 years, business has been in their favor so far, even after being open for just a month.

“It has been terrific so far,” said Taggart, “ people are excited that we are in Smithtown now.”

Not only has being a household name in the gymnastics realm helped their business flourish so quickly, but also their location, said Taggart. The Smithtown location is in between Smithtown High school East and West, along with being by the middle schools, elementary schools and even other districts.

“We are pretty centrally located, not just by Smithtown, but Hauppauge and Kings Park school districts are close as well,” said Taggart

On their team of directors is an international gymnast, Sara Harper, who helps direct some of the programs. With the Olympic spirit of Gold Medal Gymnastics and with the Olympics starting, the directors are working on getting an Olympic gymnast to help within the programs as well.

A huge part of the Rocky Point location of Gold Medal Gymnastics is their Champion Cheer Camp, run by Donna Roenbeck. The camp is twice a summer, in July and August, for girls from the age of 4 to the varsity level, and Roenbeck and her girls have claimed seven championship titles.

The Smithtown location doesn’t have this program yet, but according to Roenbeck, she is working with Smithtown Youth Coordinators to bring the program to the Smithtown Gold Medal facility.

“You learn all the basics and learn everything else you need to know,” said Roenbeck. “It’s a great program to start out for girls who want to cheerlead.”

Each program runs for four weeks starting at the Bronze Babies level for $80, Preschool level for $88 and boys and girls ages 6 and up for $105. As of now, Smithtown has a summer schedule for programs, but starting in September, after the location’s grand opening, they will have a different school-year schedule along with specials for the grand opening.

Not overly impressed, gym is VERY crowded, seating for parents is extremely uncomfortable and the parking is totally crazy!!! We paid two months and are moving on-seems they need to iron quite a few things out
