Dogs Rule at Lindsey's Groom Room

There's no such thing as a bad dog at Lindsey's Groom Room, a local dog groomer and pet supplies store, on Main Street in Kings Park.

Owner Lindsey Snyder has been grooming dogs since she was a kid growing up in Kings Park. Snyder's father owned pet stores and the love for animals stayed with her throughout her life.

It'll be the third anniversary of her own store's opening July 17. Word of mouth about her gentle touch and understanding of aggressive and abused dogs has continued to grow the business each year.

"I take care of the misfits," she said. "Every dog that was supposedly nasty turns out to be a really sweet dog at heart."

Snyder works around each dog's individual needs. She even uses a harmonica to calm a barking or nervous dog (and yes, it worked).

"I just think that there is a nicer, less scary way to do things," she said.

For dogs that are extremely uneasy with new people, the store has a room where pet owners can wash their own dogs or cats if the owner feels more comfortable doing it themselves.

During a visit to the shop Monday, Snyder even cut a dog's nails from the owner's car since the pet was nervous around other animals.

"We adjust to every dog," she said.

Snyder's way with animals is evident from the number of doggy kisses she receives from her clients.

"I get told all the time that I'm going to birth puppies instead of babies, and I'm OK with that," she said with a laugh.

Residents can meet Snyder and her groomers during the upcoming Kings Park Day June 15. Lindsey's Groom Room will have a booth where pet owners can visit and talk with the owner. Snyder will be holding a raffle as well to benefit the League for Animal Protection.
