Review: Smithtown Production of 'Avenue Q' is a Hit

Local production of Tony Award-winning musical scores praise for director Rick Lyon and cast.

In a glowing review, Broadway World Long Island recently raved about the latest show to hit the Smithtown Center for the Performing Arts, Jeff Whitty's Avenue Q.

The musical has won Tony Awards for Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Original Score. The local version, directed by Rick Lyon - part of the original Broadway cast - is a "fantastic one"  according to reviewer Melissa Giordano.

She writes: "Everyone sounded amazing together as well as, of course, individually. They each had their moment as the majority of the cast had multiple characters to play. This was an incredible feat as each of the puppets had distinct personalities and each member of the cast was on point."

Loved this show and for it to be so close to home, made it better! I'm so happy we have this theater here! Having been to almost every Broadway show, having this here on the island not only brings the best talents to us, but makes the commute quicker and less stressful. Thanks SCPA!!

This show was hysterical! I had 20 friends over for drinks and bites before we went and they ALL had a blast. It was so great to sit back and laugh like that! Definitely an adult show - very, VERY funny!
