Kings Park Hospital Through the Lens

The abandoned grounds of the hospital through the eyes of a photographer.

The Kings Park Psychiatric Center  dates back to the 1880's when it was originally created to relieve the increasing amount of mentally ill people living in the New York City area. The hospital expanded to include a number of other buildings including a power plant and railroad spur along with a private section devoted entirely to treating war veterans. The growth of the center sparked the growth of a self sufficient community that eventually emerged to form Kings Park.

The space was never demolished after it closed in 1996 and debate continues about its future.

Some see beauty in this site, some see waste and danger others see hope and possibility. What do you see?

Beautiful pictures of the former Kings Park Psychiatric Center Hospital. It was incorporated into the Nissequogue River State Park in 2006. Phase 1 of the ultimate clean up of this property will start soon. The remediation study has been completed and the next step should be the creation of a master plan. This park's potential is limitless and when finally realized, will benefit our entire community.
