Kings Park Hospital Through the Lens
The abandoned grounds of the hospital through the eyes of a photographer.
The Kings Park Psychiatric Center dates back to the 1880's when it was originally created to relieve the increasing amount of mentally ill people living in the New York City area. The hospital expanded to include a number of other buildings including a power plant and railroad spur along with a private section devoted entirely to treating war veterans. The growth of the center sparked the growth of a self sufficient community that eventually emerged to form Kings Park.
The space was never demolished after it closed in 1996 and debate continues about its future.
Some see beauty in this site, some see waste and danger others see hope and possibility. What do you see?
