The Smithtown Special Library District: From Jazz to Soul: A Concert Featuring Rhonda Denét (Nesconset)

 ,   Add to calendar
148 Smithtown Blvd Nesconset NY  See map

In celebration of African-American Music Month, we welcome the extraordinary vocal talents of Rhonda Denét, who, flanked by a guitarist and a percussionist, will perform a collection of jazz standards and soul classics that spans four decades.

You’ll enjoy hits from the time when “The First Lady of Song,” Ella Fitzgerald, graced the stage through the era when “The Queen of Soul,” Aretha Franklin, ruled the airwaves. Homage will be paid not only to Ella and Aretha, but also to jazz greats Billie Holiday, Nancy Wilson and Nina Simone as well as soul divas Etta James, Martha Reeves and the Vandellas, Mary Wells and Gladys Knight.

A star in her own right, Ms. Denét started studying music at an early age, earned a degree in Vocal Performance from NYU and has been active in the music scene for nearly 30 years as a writer, producer and singer with several New York area bands – including her Silver Fox Songs group, whose members will accompany her on this special night.

Come hear her for yourself – and be dazzled.

Please Note: CDs of cover tunes as well as of original work will be available for purchase ($5 each – cash only).

Registration begins 5/18 for Smithtown Library cardholders and 6/6 (space permitting) for all.

Open to all ages. Families welcome. Each family member must register separately. Those under 18 must be accompanied by an adult guardian attendee.

Apparently you are not the only one this is happening to. From what I understand if these signs areRead More on a main drag somehow they are disappearing in the middle of the night. Hmmm, now I wonder who or what organization could be doing this illegal act? I'm not going to make an educated guess who could be involverd in this deed but I think if Kings Parkers do some research they are smart enough to figure out who does not want the real facts of the "Uplands Project" to come to light. Displaying these signs is a way of making the public aware of the atrocity of this project. Questions will then be asked. Making a night run to remove them is, at the least, a cowardly act that should be publicized every time it occurs!
