What Would You Do For Kings Park With $300 Million

If you could only spend the money to improve your town, what would you do with it?

You didn’t win the Powerball Lottery on Saturday. (Or did you?) We’ve all dreamed about getting a windfall at one time or another and fantasized about what we’d do when we were flush with cash. But, what if someone handed us $300 million and the only stipulation was that we had to spend it on our hometown? What would you do then?

We asked people on Facebook over the weekend what they would do if they had that kind of money and had to spend it on something in Kings Park. Many had great ideas, others were just really fun sounding and a couple of them made us laugh.

Here’s what some people had to say:

Francis Fayaud: Redo the shopping center!!

Laura Griem Delisi: Build a Gazeebo at the bluff and some other cool things to preserve it for as long as possible make an observation deck at the bluff & Sunken Meadow State Park and have a school of the history of the shore line from that area for students to learn about all the amazing wildlife in the area.

Tony Rizzo: Make kppc bldg. #93 a museum & charge admission!

John Massaro: Build a community recreation center at York Hall.

Maureen Ledden Rossi: I'm with you John - I would love to see a recreation center for our youth!

Peter Devlin: For one, I'd make the KPSC grounds on a drive-in movie theater, with retractable panels that for one solar to catch and store electricity during the day double as a movie screen at night. Retractable in inclement weather, a few small mom and pop shops, road improvements to the area, a community recreation center (and not something small, a sports recreation center winter and summer) for the resident's of king's park with the hope it would take the kids off the streets and away from harmful drugs. That's what I'd do. And any left over, help the schools and such.

Christy Holmes: Build a roller rink

Continue the conversation. If you had $300 million to spend on Port Jefferson and Port Jefferson Station, what would you do with it? Balance the school budget? Preserve an historic structure? Pave the roads? What's your idea?
