Carlson Associates Files New Plans for Asphalt Plant, Trucking Station

A Kings Park industrial company has filed new plans for asphalt plant and trucking station on 25 acres along Old Northport Road. 

Carlson Associates says it has filed new site plans with Smithtown Town officials proposing to construct an asphalt production facility on 13 acres currently zoned for heavy industry, and a trucking station on 12 acres currently zoned for light industrial.

Republican voters will cast their votes on who they believe is best to lead Smithtown. 

The primary ballots in Smithtown are crowded this year as aspiring politicians are challenging long-time elected officials for their seats. The most public of these battles, Councilman Robert Creighton versus incumbent Supervisor Patrick Vecchio, has been filled town hall with tension over personal attacks and played out publicly on Main Street. 

Cocaine Found at Scene of Car Crash

Louis Lanasa, 23, of Kings Park was arrested Aug. 28 and faces one charge of operating a vehicle under the influence of drugs, a misdemeanor;  one misdemeanor count of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance - prescription drugs; and one felony count of fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled controlled substance - cocaine. 

Despite Sandy Battering, New Yorkers Unprepared for New Storms

Sandy’s wrath has area residents on alert for what meteorologists predict could be another active hurricane season, but many respondents to a new survey said they’re not as prepared as they should be in case another storm slams into the East Coast.

A Weather Channel/American Red Cross poll showed that while 56 percent of New York and New Jersey coastal residents were very or somewhat concerned about being in harm’s way, only 49 percent said their Sandy experience has led them to plan for future storms.

The primary ballots in Smithtown are crowded this year as a long-time county politician is challenging two elected officials for their seats. Suffolk County Legis. Lynne Nowick, R-St. James, is being forced from her seat due to term limits is looking to see if she can edge out either Councilman Thomas McCarthy or Councilman Kevin Malloy.
