Public Safety: Kings Park Man Arrested for Tending Commack Marijuana Farm

Smithtown Public Safety officers arrested a Kings Park man on Wednesday night for helping tend a marijuana plant farm inside a Commack water recharge basin. 

Mark Kern, 44, is charged with criminal possession of marijuana in the third degree, a felony charge, after undercover town officers found him tending to more than 100 marijuana plants off Vanderbuilt Motor Parkway and Redleaf Lane in Commack at 10:22 p.m., according to Public Safety's Deputy Chief Kevin McPadden.

Trotta Wins GOP Primary for Suffolk Legislature

A Fort Salonga resident has won the right to have his name on the ballot for Suffolk County Legislature this November. 

Rob Trotta won the Republican primary for the 13th district of the Suffolk County Legislature receiving 2,259 votes over party-endorsed candidate Paul Hennings, who received 860 votes, and challenger Mario Mattera, who received 811 votes, according to Suffolk County Board of Elections.  

Gas Leak Evacuates 8 Kings Park Homes

The threat of a potential gas leak led Suffolk County police to evacuate 8 Kings Park homes late Tuesday night. 

Suffolk County Police said they received a 911 call at 10:24 p.m. reporting the smell of gas and a potential gas leak at 21 Dalewood Lane in Kings Park. The home's 100-gallon residential tank was leaking propane.

Vecchio Wins GOP Primary for Smithtown Supervisor

Smithtown Supervisor Patrick Vecchio will run for re-election as the Republican candidate for town supervisor seat this November. 

Vecchio, R-Fort Salonga, won the Republican nomination to run for Smithtown Town Supervisor over Councilman Robert Creighton by 3,245 votes to 2,566 votes, according to Suffolk County Board of Elections as of 10:27 p.m. Tuesday night. All 92 voting districts are reporting their results. 


Kings Park Girl Inspires Her Family to Walk4Hearing

A Kings Park family is turning to the community for help raise support for their daughter, and others like her, who suffer from hearing loss. 

Rachael Kern, a former teacher at RJO Intermediate School in Kings Park, is mother to three-year-old Lily Rae, Microtia Atresia, a congenital deformity of the ear that has resulted in hearing impairment.
