Sweet! Cupcake Raffle at the Farmers Market

TLC's DC Cupcakes is donating a year of free cupcakes, proceeds to benefit food pantry.

Kings Park organizers Ann Marie Nedall and Aly Elish-Swartz have come up with a sweet idea that will benefit local organizations.

The duo teamed up with former Kings Park resident Terrence Noonan and producer of the TLC reality television show “DC Cupcakes”, to raffle off a year of free cupcakes with proceeds benefitting the food pantry at as well as a civic association scholarship fund.  A dozen cupcakes will be sent each month to the winner.

The two recently established a twice-monthly effort to collect food at the end of the market day to donate to the pantry.

“It is about paying it forward and giving back. The farmers are happy and want to give back to the community. It is not about a monetary reward. It is about revitalizing the community,” said  Elish-Swartz.

Tickets will be sold beginning this Sunday and the winner will be picked on August 7.

In the short time the market has been established, it has grown bit by bit each week with new vendors being added weekly. Live music has become a regular feature and they have added a community table that local organizations can staff and hand out information.

“It is nice that people come and chat and hang out a bit. Everything that is happening now is what we have hoped for,” said Elish-Swartz.

The market is held on Sundays from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. in the municipal lot on Main Street.
