Star Athletes: Nick Alibrandi and Kieran Burke

Boys lend powerful presence to St. Anthony's lacrosse team.

Kings Park High School offers a strong athletics programs and is a top contender in the high school sports arena. However, these hometown boys and their families made the decision to attend St. Anthony's High School and the Kingsmen's loss has definitely been the Friars gain.

St. Anthony's Varsity Lacrosse is a consistent contender in the Catholic High School League. Ranked 5th in the tri-state MSG Varsity Poll and 18th nationally according to the Inside Lacrosse Poll, the Friars have won six of the last eleven league championships.  Athletes from all over Long Island fight for a spot on the team.  These two powerhouses not only made the team, but have also been key players throughout their high school careers.

Nick Alibrandi, a local resident and a current senior at St. Anthony's, is proving his worth as a first line midfielder. Alibrandi, who wears the number four, is persistent and determined on the field. His energy and enthusiasm are contagious.

"Nick is a chemistry builder. He is constantly encouraging his teammates, but he backs it all up with talent," said team captain Joe Locascio. 

Alibrandi will attend Gettysburg College in the fall where he intends to continue his lacrosse career.

Only a junior, Kieran Burke has also proven himself to be a remarkable asset to the Friars team. 

"I have been playing lacrosse since I was four- years old and I have never played with a better goalie.  It is not only his ball stopping that makes him great.  It is his loyalty and determination that helps us win," said Locascio.

Burke also plays as a wide receiver for the Friars football team. 

The Friars success in impressive. 16 graduates were key players in the recent National Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs.  Next step for Friars' Lacrosse? They will play their archrival Chaminade on Thursday, May 26th at Hofstra University at 7 p.m.
