On Sept. 12, the , Father Seyfried Council will hold its 12th annual golf classic at The Hamlet Wind Watch Golf & Country Club.
Honored this year will be the memory of Kings Park resident and member of the Knights of Columbus, Father Seyfried Council Thomas M. Butler who lost his life on September 11, 2001 in the line of duty while responding to the World Trade Center attack.
Born in Brooklyn on May 15, 1964, Tom was the son of Bill and Peggy Butler and the brother of Bill, Steve and Eileen Butler Cristiano, all Kings Park residents. He was a 1982 graduate of Kings Park High school and after graduation pursued a career in public service.
Tom’s dream was to follow his father’s footsteps in becoming a New York City fireman. He served as a New York City police officer before joining the NYFD. He lived in Kings Park with his wife Martha and their three children - Sean, Kelly and Patrick. He was a part time Smithtown Bay Constable and a Gunners 3rd Mate in the US Navy Reserves.
“On the tenth anniversary of 9-11, Thomas Butler is the perfect honoree,” explains Frank Albergo, Knights of Columbus golf chairman.
All proceeds from the outing will benefit Father Seyfried Council’s charitable, community and fraternal activities, such as raising funds for Stony Brook University Hospital’s “Sunrise Fund” benefiting children coping with cancer, awarding an annual scholarship to a graduating Kings Park High School senior, and hosting a soccer challenge, basketball free throw, annual breakfast with the Easter Bunny, and various food drives.
The price is $150 per golfer, which includes a continental breakfast and lunch. There will be awards, a 50/50 and raffles throughout the day.
