Patch Picks: Mother's Day

A guide to things mom is sure to enjoy.

Sunday is Mother's Day, and while you already show the woman who brought you into this world all the love and affection she deserves every day, Mother's Day is their chance to kick back, relax, and do whatever the heck they want. And if mom wants you to plan her a day she'll love, here are some ideas:

 - Mom typically loves to see the family dressed up, but if you're heading to brunch at the Garden Grill, you may want to wear some loose clothing so you can fill up. For $32, the Grill is offering their usual brunch setup, plus coffee/tea, all the typical breakfast foods, bagels, baked goods, lunch dishes, cold salads, a fruit platter, carving station, lamb chops, seafood, desserts, and a free mimosa or bloody mary. Seating is from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

 - For all the times mom rubbed your back and made you chicken noodle soup, book her some time at the nail salon to get a manicure and pedicure. And while she's there, she can receive a massage to rub her stress away.

 - Enjoy delicious food and the gorgeous scenery of the nearby golf course. Beginning at 11 a.m., Seasons Grill will offer a full menu, including omelets and breakfast foods, hamgurgers, sandwiches, wraps, platters and more.

Smithhaven Mall - With a veritable cornucopia of stores to choose from, the perfect Mother's Day could be as simple as chauffeuring mom to the Smithhaven Mall and maybe carry her bags (and there will be bags).

 - Don't you dare ask what's for dinner. Instead, make a quick phone call to Pace's, get a table for dinner time, and order absolutely anything off the menu--a bad dish has never come out of the kitchen (even the escargot is good).

 - You can't go wrong serving mom breakfast in bed, but if she wants to sleep in Sunday and still have an omelet or French toast, Mrs. Brown's is the place to go. The kitchen serves up breakfast until 3 p.m.

 - Whether she's a wine or a spirits gal, the Northport Tasting Room And Wine Cellar has a huge assortment of drinks, and their famous free tastings are a chance to uncork before you buy.

 - The Inn unlocks the doors and sets the tables for hungry patrons at 7:15 a.m. and will be serving all the staple breakfast items. If you're arriving for dinner, come hungry for the fish platter, surf turf, prime rib, or duck, among other entrees. After eating, take a quick walk to the water and take in the sights of Northport.

 - The perfect end to a perfect Mother's Day? A scoop (or two) (or three) of delicious homemade Italian ices and ice cream. We could list all the flavors, and you could waste time reading them, or you could just take your chances (spoiler alert: there isn't a bad flavor in the store).
