Here's how to have fun with the whole family this week.

Each week, we'll give you the info on the five best family activities or events for the week. You're time-pressed enough, so we're happy to do the research and find the best things to do and places to go, both locally and within reasonable striking distance.

FAMILY BEST BETS OF THE WEEK


Where/When: Superior Ice Skating Rink; Wednesday, 4-6 p.m.
Why Go: Strap on a pair of skates and hit the ice for some recreational skating time.
Pricing: $9 for adults, $7 for children 11 and under, $5 for seniors and children under 3; $4 for skates, $5 for Nike skates


Where/When: Caleb Smith State Park Preserve; Thursday, 10-11 a.m.
Why Go: Is there really a man on the moon? How did a cow manage to jump over it? Learn the answers to these questions and more at this hour-long parent-and-child learning experience.

Where/When: Walt Whitman Birthplace Historical Site and Interpretive Center; Saturday, 1 p.m.
Why Go: Treat yourself to an authentic performance of soft- and hard-shoe Irish dancing. Little kids will love it, as the dancers make a point to engage them.
Pricing: $8 per child, free for chaperones


Where/When: Nissequogue River State Park; Saturday, 2-3:30 p.m.
Why Go: There's no time to waste--grab your fellow treasure hunters and get searching.
Pricing: $4 per child, $3 per adult; $8 for parking


Where/When: Smithtown Township Arts Council; Saturday, 1-3 p.m.
Why Go: Everyone can draw a stick figure, but can you create an accurate portrayal of your surroundings? This class will teach the techniques necessary to depict a beautiful landscape.
Pricing: $150 for six two-hour classes, $20 for supplies
