Gasparro's on the River Serves Up Pizza and a View

Located right by the Nissequogue River, Gasparro's provides its customers with a scenic view.

Tasty cuisine can go a long way in winning over a restaurant's customers. However, there's often more to creating an experience that is more than just satisfying. Gasparro’s on the River not only serves up pizza and Italian cuisine, but its beautiful view of the Nissequogue River makes for a wonderful setting for parties of any size.

Located at 100 Riviera Drive in Kings Park, Gasparro’s celebrated one year of business on April 1. The pizzeria and restaurant is the first business venture of owners Jerry and Susan Gasparro.

“We saw the potential here,” said Jerry Gasparro.

Inside the restaurant, there’s enough tables and chairs for 12 people, but it’s the outside where patrons prefer to sit, enjoying a scenic view of the river.

“It’s a great spot to have a restaurant," Gasparro said.

Last summer, the couple also had a 15' x 39' barge with a few tables on it. The owner said it was a big hit with the canoeists and kayakers. This year. the Gasparros plan to have it back in the water in the middle of this month. Those paddling in a canoe or kayak ride can tie their boats up to the attached dock to grab a quick bite to eat.

Gasparro’s menu offers different types of pizza along with Italian cuisine such as Baked Ziti, Penne alla Vodka, Zuppa di Pesce, Calamari and more.

After graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, Gasparro worked at local restaurant such as Coco’s and the Watermill Inn. When he saw how he helped to increase business for the owners, he realized it was time to have his own place.

Right now, the Gasparros lease the building, but they intend to buy it in the near future. They also have plans to add a side dining room so there will be additional seating inside.

The couple have been residents of San Remo for 15 years, and like many of their customers, love to get out on the water when they can with their boat and jetski. However, with opening the business last year, Gasparro said they only got out a few times last summer.

The restaurant is opened all year long, but it’s during the warmer weather that they get the most business. With summer on the horizon, the couple is looking forward to the months ahead.

“We love it here,” said Gasparro.

Gasparro’s is open Tuesday through Sunday.
