Family Forum: Ideas For Family Fun During Spring Break?

Our discussion focuses on school-break activities this week.

Another school vacation is upon us which means extra time with our kids, which usually means keeping them busy.

This week Patch asks how you keep your family busy on spring break?

Our family opted for a staycation this time.  However, the last thing that I ever want to hear my kids say is, the dreaded B word; bored.

We are fortunate to have so many fun things to do in our area. If Mother Nature cooperates being outside is a great option. So far, we haven't been that lucky, but some of our favorite indoor activities include:

  • Monster Mini-Golf http://monsterminigolf.com/  Be sure to wear white for an extra fun experience. Locations are in Deer Park and Medford. Check the web site for specials.
  • Chuck E. Cheese (best to go early in the morning) http://www.chuckecheese.com/. Locations in Commack, Patchogue, West Islip, Hicksville and Hempstead. Join the email club for coupons or check the Sunday inserts.
  • Museum Row in Garden City. Toddlers to teens will enjoy all of the hands-on exhibits.  Their membership is a great way to save money. You'll be able to visit other children's museums around the country.

If all else fails try bowling, movies, library, an excursion to Target or walking the mall.

My house is a democracy. I give my kids the choices from the above list. They vote on their choice for the day and I am the tiebreaker when needed. I think that my boys appreciate the flexibility.
