Event Spotlight: Sweetbriar Turtle Walk

One turtle, two turtle, three turtle, four - participate in an annual turtle count.

Join r in locating the Eastern Box Turtles that call Sweetbriar home. The turtles will be examined, tagged and released.

There will be a presentation on LI turtles, followed by a turtle craft. Wear long pants and closed toe shoes for this adventure.

According to Eric Young, Program Director at Sweetbriar, “To ensure the safety of the Eastern Box Turtles that live in the field [which is used for parking during the annual fair] we started checking the fields years ago.“

“Finally we decided that it would be more efficient to have the public help us out and in the process people could learn about box turtles and their habits,” explains Young. “It also gives us a chance to show people they can make a difference in helping wildlife live more safely among us.”

We tried callingRead More it but it ran into the st. johnland nursing home and wouldn't come to me when I tried calling it over. It looks like a shepherd mix and seems a little frightened.
