Between 3 p.m and 8 p.m. Thursday, Carvel ice cream shops are giving away free junior cones or cups.

Those who drop in for free ice cream are not required to buy anything — however, during the promotion Carvel is selling coupon books, with proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross. The books are $2 each, and the Carvel coupons are valued at $20.

“The American Red Cross is proud to partner with Carvel Ice Cream on Free Cone Day for their support of our organization," said Josh Lockwood, the chief executive officer of the Greater New York Region for the American Red Cross.
"This program will help the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters at home and around the world."
