#92 - Tee Time at Indian Head Golf Park

Time to dust off the clubs and get back in the swing.

As the milder weather moves in, so do thoughts of birdies and bogeys. Getting ready for a great golf season begins right in here in Kings Park. This is why Indian Head Golf Park has made our list of 100 Things To Do In Kings Park.

Indian Head Golf Park is a full service 300 yard driving range, complete with fifty lighted stalls, a sand trap, a chipping area and a putting green. The owner, long time Kings Park resident Dennis Dorsey, opened the facility over fifteen years ago. There is a pro shop on premises where you can purchase equipment or have your clubs repaired or re-gripped.

If you want to do more than hit a bucket of balls, the Golf Park is home to the Peter Stern Golf Academy. Lessons are available for beginners to seasoned golfers, and every level in between. Mr. Stern, a PGA professional, utilizes an indoor studio with state of the art video analysis. Individual and group lessons are available.

On the Tee Academy is another instructional program, under the direction of PGA professional Bob Greene, and is designed for the beginner or recreational golfer, focusing on pre-swing and basic swing fundamentals.

The facility also offers a variety of programs for the junior golfer. The Junior Academy of Golf is a multi week program for children ages five to fifteen. Skills taught include grip, stance, posture, set-up, alignment, etiquette, safety and rules. For those juniors looking to learn golf during the summer months, Summer Golf Camp is available.  The summer program consists of instruction, along with 9 hole play at the Dix Hills Country Club.

Proud of the junior programs, Mr. Dorsey states, “lots of children have come through these programs.  Their golf games have improved and they have gone on to receive college scholarships.”

Children’s parties are also available, which includes clubs, balls, pizza, soda and a mini lesson by one of the park’s pros.

At any given time at the range, you will find the serious to the recreational golfer, retirees to children.  Andrew Bellantone, who has visited the range for the past three years, says, “It’s a convenient, nice place and I come here to practice because in golf, practice makes perfect.”

Hours vary seasonally. From mid May through early fall, the park is open 8am until 11pm.  From late fall to early spring the park is open 8am until dark. Gift certificates are available. Don’t forget to inquire about senior discounts and Ladies’ Day Mondays.
