#79 – Taking A Stroll Along The Boardwalk At Sunken Meadow State Park

For exercise, companionship, peace of mind, the boardwalk offers it all.

Whether you are walking alone or with others, taking a stroll on the boardwalk at is a wonderful experience.

With sweeping views of the Long Island Sound and Smithtown Bay, the three-quarter mile boardwalk overlooks three miles of north shore beach.

On a clear day, the shoreline of Connecticut can be seen, along with the colossal ferries, which look minuscule in the distance, carrying passengers to and from Port Jefferson and Bridgeport.

During the warmer months a variety of boats dot the seascape, from sailboats to fishing boats. Seagulls can be spotted diving into the water to feed and the Sound’s spray can be seen breaking over the jetty on windy days.

Year round, from sunrise to sunset, the planks are home to everyone from moms pushing strollers to couples holding hands. There are joggers and runners of all ages, but during the mornings, it is the walkers that reign over the boardwalk.
