#73 – Attend A School Board Meeting
Learn about programs and policies that affect students and decisions that affect the pocketbook.
Whether you have children in the district or not, decisions of the Kings Park Board of Education have an impact on every resident.
From educating the children of Kings Park, to setting the budget, many important decisions are made at Board of Education meetings. By attending a meeting you can both learn about these decisions and have an opportunity to inquire about the school board’s decision making process.
The Board of Education generally meets bi-monthly on Tuesdays throughout the year. The meetings are held in the Kings Park High School, room 101, starting at 7:30 p.m.

Also, presentations, such as curriculum updates and student awards, are often included in the agenda.
A public comment period is allowed at the end of each meeting. It is not to exceed thirty minutes and comments by any individual may not exceed five minutes.
Speakers must address their comments to the board and personnel matters are not discussed.
In attendance are the five school board members - William Motherway, president, Marie Goldstein, vice president, and trustees Steve Weber, Tom Locascio, and Liz Barrett .
Also present is the Superintendant of Schools – Susan Agruso, as well as various school administration and faculty.
Regarding resident participation, school board trustee Steve Weber explains, “Many school boards do not allow public comments at their board meetings, I think that is a mistake.”
“We are a better district as a result of these discussions,” Weber says. “It’s a two way street where information flows in both directions."
If you are unable to make it to a meeting but are still interested in what happened, the meetings are videotaped and are available on the school’s website.
