5 Ways to Keep Cool in Kings Park

It's hot out there. Here are some ways to escape the heat.

Our area is under a heat warning with heat indexes expected to top 100 degrees.

Staying cool is not just about comfort, for some people it’s about safety. Weather like this puts everyone, but especially the very young and older adults, at risk.

Here’s Kings Park Patch’s list of the top places to keep cool:

1. Libraries: The Smithtown libraries have air conditioning. Pick up a new book, catch up on your magazine reading or surf the Internet while staying cool.

2. Go See a Movie: Movie theaters are nicely air conditioned and you can spend a few hours enjoying a movie while keeping cool. United Artists in Stony Brook is playing some great movies for the kids, including Despicable Me 2 and Monsters University.

3. The Beach: Short Beach, Long Beach and the Kings Park Bluff all have great beach spots. So grab a towel, bathing suit and a cooler full of drinks and sandwiches and head down to one of your favorite spots.

4. A Pool: Do you or maybe you have a friend with a pool? The water, of course, is a great place to keep cool.

5. Go Shopping: Local shops and the mall have air conditioning, so why not pop in and check out what's new in the shops and don't forget to stop in at one of the area's ice cream shops and cool off with a cone topped with a cold flavor of your choice.
