Here's what's happening in and around Kings Park for Feb. 13-Feb. 17

Read To Rover

Book individual time with certified and trained therapy dogs from Therapy Dog International, who will listen quietly as you read stories aloud. Begins 6:15 p.m. Monday at the Nesconset branch of the Smithtown Library.

Head down to the Commack branch of the Smithtown Library for some Valentine's Day activities. Children will listen to heartfelt stories about this special holiday and create an adorable craft. Grades K-2. Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.

What Your Kids Are Really Saying About Drugs and Alcohol

The Commack Coalition of Caring presents a workshop on what are saying about abusive substances. Meeting takes place in the Art Gallery. Two speakers from Father Frank's Hope House will talk about tragic tales of abuse and recovery and Pam Mizzi, a prevention specialist, will provide tips on preventing the problem.

School Budget Workshops

The Kings Park Board of Education meets Thursday evening for the first of a series of workshops on next year's school budget. Meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at the high school.

Kings Park: Stories From An American Mental Institution

Filmaker Lucy Winer presents a movie about her return to the now-abandoned Kings Park State Hospital mental ward at the Cinema Arts Theater in Huntington. Wine and crudite platters at 7:00 p.m. The movie begins at 7:30 p.m. with a panel discussion along with coffee and dessert at 9:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit Hands Across Long Island (HALI) and Clubhouse of Suffolk.

Hmmm, now I wonder who or what organization could be doing this illegal act? I'm not going to make an educated guess who could be involverd in this deed but I think if Kings Parkers do some research they are smart enough to figure out who does not want the real facts of the "Uplands Project" to come to light. Displaying these signs is a way of making the public aware of the atrocity of this project. Questions will then be asked. Making a night run to remove them is, at the least, a cowardly act that should be publicized every time it occurs!
