100 Things to Do: #72 - Train Trip to NYC Courtesy of the Library

The Smithtown Special Library District offers reduced train tickets to New York City.

You can enjoy a day in New York City with reduced-rate train tickets courtesy of the Long Island Rail Road and the Smithtown Special Library District.

For just $8.50 each round-trip ticket, you leave as a group from the Kings Park Train Station, located at 85 Meadow Road, and come home the same day on any Kings Park bound train that leaves Penn Station. Children under five are free. The next trip is Saturday, Sept. 24 at 8:45 a.m.

You must register and pay using non-refundable cash or a check made out to “The Smithtown Library” at least five days before the trip at any open branch of the Smithtown Library, Nesconset or Commack, according to the library’s website.

On the day of the trip, you will meet a Kings Park staff member at the Kings Park Rail Road Station house at 8:55 a.m., who will give you your tickets. The train leaves at 9:10 a.m. and arrives at Penn at 10:39 a.m., with a transfer at Huntington. All participants must be on the same train, and remain in the first car as a group from Kings Park to Huntington and Huntington to Penn. Patrons who are not in the first car going into Manhattan will be charged the full price of a ticket, according to the library’s website.
