Counseling, Vigil Help Community Mourn Teen

“It’s a good opportunity for students to come and express their feelings,” said District Superintendent Susan Agruso. Students had gathered around small tables in the media library to speak with school guidance counselors. Administrators took the news hard as well, as a visibly upset Agruso said the counseling was also good for the staff.

In the tight-knit Kings Park community, the tragedy has affected many, including the family of Dan Byrne, the driver involved in the collision.

Joe Byrne told Patch in an email that Dan is all too familiar with this type of tragedy.

“Seamus left behind a wife, two young children and three brothers. Dan is still grieving for his brother and I can assure everyone that posted that he is devastated by what happened and feels this family’s pain and knows exactly what they’re going through,” said Joe Byrne. “

"This poor family has a very hard road ahead of them and the whole Byrne family will be praying for them,” he said.

“We take our cues from the students,” said Agruso. “We will adjust to meet their needs.”
